The NES set minimum entitlements for employees in the national workplace relations system. Awards, agreements and contracts cannot exclude them or undercut their minimum conditions. Casual employees receive some, but not all, NES entitlements.
The topics include hours, flexibility, casual employment, leave, public holidays, superannuation, notice and redundancy, and information statements. Eligibility and exceptions depend on the entitlement and circumstances.
Read the official Fair Work Ombudsman NES guidance (opens in a new tab)
Official guidance checked 3 November 2026. This short introduction does not determine which system applies to your business.
Use a publicly available agreement or business name only, not employee names or confidential details. Text typed here stays in this page until you choose a link. It is not saved or emailed. Clicking “Search FWC pages with Google” sends the agreement name to Google in a search restricted to fwc.gov.au. Google handles that search under its own privacy policy.
Search FWC pages with Google (new tab)
Enter an agreement name to create your search link.
Open the Fair Work Commission agreement search (new tab)
Search on the Commission's website by agreement or business name, or ABN. Anything you enter there is handled by the Commission, not Vantage. This page does not send your entry automatically.
Check the agreement's coverage and relevant workplace, not just its title. Passing a nominal expiry date does not necessarily mean an agreement has stopped applying.
